Pucon, Chile is sort of a half way point between Santiago and Patagonia, and sits in a region that is known as the lake district. As Lynn had mentioned in her article about Pucon, it is known as an extreme sports town with tons of activities. What we learned is that most of those activities require a tour company and can be very expensive. We were determined to find inexpensive things to do in Pucon, and I think we did pretty well.
During one of our days we found an inexpensive boat that did short tours of the lake. Even though it wasn’t the most interesting tour, it brought us out to a point where we were able to see Villarrica Volcano which was all we were really looking to do. As you’ll see from the photos below, we also took a long hike to a waterfall that was free and spent some time watching the volcano at night while we were cooking dinner at our hostel.
