Andy and I had a friend’s wedding in McKinney, Texas in October of last year. Since the majority of the people attending the wedding were local, there was no hotel room block set up. I began to look for hotels that were in the general area which didn’t yield many results.
Finding & Booking the Hotel
I searched for hotels originally through Kayak, which is always my starting point. I then on a whim searched on Rocketmiles to see if there was anything there that would meet our needs. I was very excited when I found the Homewood Suites by Hilton – Dallas/Allen. While the hotel is a little bit more expensive than we normally spend, we decided that we would splurge a little.
Not only was the hotel very nice, it was also the same price through Rocketmiles as it was through the Hilton website. This meant that I got 1,000 United miles for my booking which are much more valuable to me than Hilton Hhonors points.
If you haven’t used Rocketmiles before, use my referral link and we both earn 1,000 after your first stay.
We checked into the hotel and headed up to our room.
The first thought that Andy and I both had was that the room was huge! I know that it is a suite, but even at that, this room was massive. The furnishings were really nice and had fun, unique patterns that added something to the feel of the hotel.
Since the hotel is built for an extended stay, the room had a kitchen. We did not utilize this but it is a great feature, especially if you are staying for several days or have a family and want to save some money from dining out.
There were 2 things that we really liked that were left for us on the kitchen table:
- A Hershey’s candy bar – because chocolate is delicious
- A coupon code for an 8″x8″ Shutterfly book – something that we used when we created wedding albums as Christmas gifts for our parents
Our stay included a free breakfast which we took advantage of. While it wasn’t the best breakfast that we have ever had, it was pretty good.
Wi-fi was included in our room rate and we took full advantage, uploading our pictures that we took during our trip to our Google drive.
The hotel also has a pool, hot tub, basketball court and fitness center. We didn’t get to take advantage of any of these but they were good perks, especially for someone who is staying at the hotel for several days.
I would absolutely stay at the Homewood Suites by Hilton Dallas/Allen if I were in the area again. While it is more expensive than hotel rooms we typically stay at, the room itself was great and the amenities were top notch. The fact that I was able to earn United airlines miles for our stay through Rocketmiles was just icing on the cake.
