When looking for places to stay in Budapest, we were hopeful that like many cities in Europe, we would be able to find an apartment for a reasonable price. We were lucky when we found Ebony Premium Apartments, arguably one of the best apartments we had during our trip.
We expected to have to coordinate our arrival time with the host but were pleasantly surprised to learn that Ebony Premium Apartments had an on-site office. This allowed us to arrive without stressing out about arriving exactly at the time we agreed upon. It was a little confusing when we arrived since the buzzer wasn’t well marked. Andy took the opportunity to enter the building when someone was leaving and headed up to the office to complete our paperwork. When he came down to get me, he had the apartment key in hand.
Ebony Premium Apartment
When we first opened the door to the apartment we were impressed – it was clean, very large and had extremely high ceilings. The furnishings were new and were a modern design. I think our favorite piece was the large sectional sofa. It wasn’t until we arrived that we realized just how few times we had a decent couch on our trip.
The bed was comfortable and we were thrilled to have a single, large blanket instead of 2 twin-size blankets which seemed to be very common in much of Eastern Europe.
Similar to the rest of the apartment, the bathroom was recently updated and large. The water pressure was great which was amazing. Unfortunately the shower drain appeared to be a little backed up. This meant we had to take quick showers since neither of us had the desire to stand in used shower water. It also filled up to the point of almost overflowing.
Amenities at Ebony Premium Apartments
While the kitchen looked great and was functional, it was missing a few items which we deemed essentials. Had there been a drying rack, hot pads and a kitchen towel, it would have been easier to cook. We have learned to become extremely adaptive on the road and made due with the hand towels from the bathroom.
Even with the missing essentials, we managed to create a few great meals during our short time at the apartment.
We did the math and calculated that the laundry we did in Budapest would be the last laundry that we would need to do before returning to the states. It is the little things like this that made us realize that our trip was really coming to an end.
While the machine looked large, we were duped. The washer was extremely thin which meant that it didn’t hold much so we had to do a few loads.
Our expectations for wifi speed had diminished greatly during our trip so whenever we had genuinely fast wifi we were elated. We took the opportunity to upload all of our photos and videos to our google drive as well as video chat with our families. It was great to be able to see everyone without the video constantly buffering or dropping the call.
Our apartment was located on the 2nd floor on a major street. Because of this we did hear some city noise through the windows. Maybe we got used to the noise when we lived in Chicago, but it wasn’t too loud for us. In fact, we kind of missed the noise of the city so it felt a little like home.
The location could not have been better for us. We weren’t too far from a few of the sights and for the further away sights, there was a metro stop directly across the street. For very little, we were able to ride the metro wherever we wanted to go. It was surprising to us how frequent the trains ran and how clean they were. While the train cars had not been updated since the Soviet era, they were surprisingly comfortable. The only annoyance was the loud screeching sound when the operator put on the brakes.
I don’t know if we could have found a better apartment if we tried. The design was modern, everything was clean and our bed was comfortable. While the kitchen could have had a few more essentials and the bathroom shower could have drained better, it was still just about perfect.
Being so close to the metro made it very easy to get to the apartment from the bus station, go out sightseeing and make our way to the airport.
