The best AirAsia flight from Bangkok to Chiang Mai ended up being at 6am. While I am not a fan of an early flight ever, sometimes it just makes sense. This would allow us to avoid the terrible Bangkok traffic and get to Chiang Mai early enough to have a full day.

That lead me to search for a hotel near the airport. While Inn A Day was amazing, the distance to the airport was too far for us with our early flight.

Finding Our Hotel

I started my search on Kayak, searching for hotels within a few miles of DMK airport. Since this isn’t the main airport in Bangkok, there are fewer hotels than you may expect – only 7 within a mile radius and 17 within a 2 mile radius.

There was one hotel amongst all the others that stood out, the Amari Don Muang Airport Bangkok. It is connected to the airport which was perfect for our early flight. That way we didn’t have to worry about getting a taxi or shuttle to the airport in the morning.

We prepaid the room to save a little extra money and check in was a breeze. Once we got our key we headed up to our room.

The Deluxe Room

While I normally book the cheapest room available, I surprised myself splurging for a deluxe room. The deluxe rooms were recently remodeled and looked so much nicer and more modern than the superior rooms.

The room was big and nicely decorated. The bathroom was very nice as well with a large rainfall showerhead. We were very happy to find out that the water pressure was good, something that was lacking at some of the other hotels that we had stayed at in Asia during our honeymoon. The only small issue we had with the shower was that there was space underneath where the door closed. So, after one of us had taken a shower we noticed the water had pooled outside the shower door.

Amari DMK Hotel Deluxe Room King Bed

The best part of the room was the bed. It was the first king size bed that we had on our trip and something that we look forward to when we travel since we only have a queen size bed at home. The bed was extremely comfortable and we slept very well, albeit only for a short amount of time since we had to wake up so early.

Final Thoughts

I would highly recommend the Amari DMK to anyone who is flying into Bangkok late or leaving early since the location can not be beat. The hotel is very modern, check in is extremely fast, the bed is super comfortable and the shower is great.
