Aloft San Jose Hotel, Costa Rica

Our flight to San Jose Costa Rica arrived late at night and our departing flight left early in the morning. In order to maximize our sleep, we looked into hotels near the airport. The Aloft San Jose was a new hotel that had great reviews and good prices. For consistency, we decided to book at the same hotel for both the arrival and departure.

Our Stay at the Aloft San Jose

After a relatively quick taxi cab ride from the airport we arrived at the Aloft San Jose hotel. It was a great transition to Costa Rica as it was an American chain and everything felt very comfortable to us. The room was really modern and the king size bed was a real treat as we only had full or queen size beds the remainder of our trip. On New Year’s day we were able to watch the Michigan State vs. Stanford Rose Bowl game in our room as there were a lot of channels available. Although the channel was in Spanish, it was a great perk to be able to watch the game without having to go to a bar.

As great as the room was, I have to say that the employees at the Aloft San Jose were the best that I have interacted with at any hotel. The front desk associate went way above and beyond by helping us immensely in our rental car reservation fiasco. She bridged the language barrier and got us our car delivered to the hotel. I honestly think had we been at another hotel, that we may not have gotten our car or if we had, it would have been much later.

While we waited for the rental car, we enjoyed a complimentary breakfast. The spread had standard American dishes, Costa Rican fare like rice and beans as well as a lot of cut fruit. We enjoyed breakfast in a very sunny screened in patio which was really nice.

Always maximizing points when I stay at chain hotels, I used my Starwood Preferred Guest account to earn 2 miles per dollar spent on my United account.

My final tip if staying at the Aloft San Jose hotel is to check the pricing down the road. I was able to cancel my refundable rate several weeks after I booked when the price dropped $20 on a non-refundable room, which was not an option when I had booked originally.
